Santiago de Compostela
On 4–5 November 2026, IDEAGOV (International Center for Decentralization and Governance) will hold its second international conference, Equalization in Decentralized Governance, at the Sala do Pleno of the Consello Económico e Social de Galicia (CES) in Santiago de Compostela.
The conference will bring together leading international scholars and policy experts to discuss the role of equalization mechanisms in decentralized systems and their impact on regional convergence, fiscal stability, political cohesion, and public policy outcomes. Through a series of thematic sessions, participants will examine experiences from Europe and North America, addressing topics such as fiscal equalization, decentralization, regional development, political stability, and intergovernmental transfers.
The conference’s findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of how equalization mechanisms influence fiscal performance, regional development, and political cohesion in decentralized countries, while providing valuable insights for both scholars and policymakers.
Further details and the final programme will be announced in the coming months.
